Clare Bird Species List 2022

Baltimore Oriole at Kilbaha John N Murphy

Here is the list of species found in Clare in 2022.

There were 206 bird species in County Clare during 2022 of which three new species were added to the county List, Eastern Black-eared Wheatear at the Cliffs of Moher in June by a visiting Dutch Birder. Then in autumn at Loop Head the first county records of Olive-backed Pipit and Baltimore Oriole found.  Birds not record this year included seabirds like Surfs Scoter, Fea’s Petrel, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, the Burren Snowy Owl went missing after a good few years being present around Cappaghnawalla near Ballyvaughan. No Turtle Dove, Pied and Red-breasted Flycatcher, Whinchat and Common Redstart. Given there were so many Firecrest around the country in autumn 2022, I am amazed one did not turn up at Loop Head.
